The purpose of Proficiency Testing

How?

Interlaboratory comparison programmes provide the organisation, performance and evaluation of calibrations or tests made on the same or similar items or materials by two or more laboratories in accordance with predetermined conditions. A comparison measurement gives the opportunity of performing a measurement task with an instrument without knowing in advance the instrument performance or error. The measurements are performed by the laboratory personnel in the measurement environment of the laboratory concerned . This is of great value as the results reveal relevant influences from the different elements of the laboratory’s measurement system, such as the chosen measurement method, environment etc. Confidentiality of proficiency testing results is maintained by identifying the participants only with a unique code. The PT provider will not disclose confidential information to any third party. After signing up for an intercomparison, your company will receive a confirmation from the PT provider.

A flowchart with the working procedure can be found here.

This is the website of CFI, a centre for intercomparisons (proficiency testing) which has been developed for the purpose to assist calibration- and testing laboratories to secure their measurement claims according to ISO/IEC 17025.

CFI works over a wide area of different measurement quantities, instruments and accuracy levels, and our goal is to assist both measurement laboratories and industrial users.

Since there are many un-accredited laboratories that also need to secure their measurement capability, the services of this web site are also open to them.

The services offered was originally developed in cooperation between the NMI (National Metrology institutes) in the Nordic and Baltic countries.
